The idea for this blog started innocently enough, with a stop at Donuts Etc. located on Main street in Jacksonville. Bawb and I were on our way back from a salvage yard. We got there just in time to see the proprietor flip the sign from open to closed, we were bummed. We vowed that we would make our way back to that shop to try their wares. A few weeks we recruited Jeff to join us on an early morning run to try out this donut shop. We rode up and each got a couple of donuts and sat in a booth and talked about the place, the donuts, the folks serving them and some other criteria. We enjoyed each other’s company and we had some fine donuts.
We laughed about a survey the Times Union had done about the best donut shop in Jacksonville, it ended up being the Donut Shop in Arlington. I have frequented and wrote about that donut shop in a different blog I write - http://mroatmealsoratories.blogspot.com/2009/03/who-does-not-love-donut-i-think-local.html As we sat and talked and laughed I think we all realized this was a cool thing to do and maybe we should check out a new place every month. After some great camaraderie we headed back to work thinking about what next month might bring. A location was selected and an Outlook calendar event was quickly setup to remind us that we were to hit the next shop.
At that point it was still about just having some donuts and spending a few minutes together sitting in donut shops talking about things that were NOT work related. The next visit out created more conversation and the next thing we knew we were planning a blog about the donut shops of Jacksonville. Since I already wrote a few blogs I volunteered to set this blog up. As we talked we also created the name, 3 men and a donut and a quick search told me the domain was available so I quickly purchased it and set up the blog you are now reading. We also thought at that point that it would be funny to create a bio for each of us that would give our credentials, to prove we were up for the task.
It was all basically just shit talking while we enjoyed a donut or two but somehow we ended up here, with this blog. We are going to once a month go out and visit local donut shops and report our findings, our thoughts and anything else we find interesting enough to report on.
